About John Deere Specialty Crop Equipment

Among the hundreds of tractor models that the Moline, Illinois-based John Deere has released since it debuted its first tractor in 1918 (the John Deere Dain All-Wheel-Drive) are various John Deere specialty tractor models. While these smaller tractors may lack the power of their larger 4WD and row-crop brethren, Deere’s Specialty Tractor lineup still offers the type of features, support for Frontier implements, and availability with various Deere precision-farm and performance-centric technologies you’d expect from a Deere tractor. Ranging from 75 to 155 horsepower, the models in Deere’s Specialty Tractor lineup are categorized according to Low-Profile – Lower Clearance (75 to 125 horsepower), High Crop – High Clearance (100 to 115 horsepower), and Narrow Series (75 to 100 horsepower) models.

    Building A Giant

Inventor and blacksmith John Deere founded John Deere in 1837 in Grand Detour, Illinois. Over the decades, the company grew into what’s unquestionably now one of the world’s most recognized and valued brands, including due to the host of agriculture, construction, lawn and turf, industrial, and other equipment it develops and manufactures in the United States and at its international manufacturing plants.

In addition to specialty and other tractor models, Deere produces combine harvesters, self-propelled forage harvesters, front loaders, rotary cutters, flail mowers, rakes, tedders, round and square balers, rakes, air drills, seeders, spreaders, Gator utility vehicles, zero-turn mowers, and numerous other products. Among other applications, the company’s specialty tractors are designed to work with and in sensitive fruit and vegetable crops, high-value crops such as sugar cane and strawberries, vineyards, orchards, and general tight spaces around the farm.

    Why So Special?

Broadly, Deere’s specialty tractors are characterized as offering good maneuverability and easy navigation in narrow rows and tight spaces while still providing ample power to complete demanding tasks, including in association with various implements. At slightly more than 4 feet tall and wide, the 5075GL low-profile tractor, for example, is designed for orchard and vineyard use while minimizing damage to trees, vines, and fruit. The 5100MH high-crop model, meanwhile, offers 24.8 inches of front-axle clearance, while the 6155RH provides 25-plus inches of front-axle clearance to go along with a rear drop-axle feature and its 155 horsepower of power output.

Among the features John Deere’s various specialty tractors include are open station and cab configurations, Deere’s ComfortView cab, the Intelligent Power Management system for added power in transportation and challenging PTO tasks, and Yield Documentation. The latter enables viewing data related to potato, onion, sugar beet, and other specialty crops from the cab, as well as transfer the data to the John Deere Operations Centre.
