    About Bin Carriers

Bin carriers haul bins full of nuts, oranges, apples, berries, and other crops on farms and orchards. They are typically self-propelled and can carry between six and nine bins in one trip. Most bin carriers only require one operator, although there are some that seat two operators. These machines are designed to drive on virtually any terrain and in any weather, and some of them have four-wheel drive for better operator control. Because bin carriers often operate in longer shifts, sometimes as long as 12 hours, manufacturers employ heavy-duty construction techniques for maximum durability. They also focus on fuel efficiency so you can spend less time refueling and more time running bins to and from crop rows and orchards.

    Bin Carrier Features

The defining characteristics of the bin carrier are the forks that lower to the ground to collect the bins, the platform that holds the bins, and the driver seat. The forks are usually made of the same material as the rest of the carrier but have rubber rollers on them that pull bins onto the platform. Most machines have speed controls for the forks to make sure bins aren’t loaded too quickly; this prevents damage to the bins and the fruits, vegetables, or nuts stored inside. When the bins are loaded onto the main platform, the forks lift off the ground to prevent bins from sliding off during transport. The driver seat is typically located to the side of the main platform near the forks or at the rear of the machine furthest from the forks. However, there are some specialty bin carriers where the operator seat is situated above the platform, which makes them well suited for orchards where rows are close together and a more compact machine is required to prevent damage to bushes. There are also low profile bin carriers designed for this same purpose that are closer to the ground to avoid hitting low hanging branches during the harvest. The operator compartment may be completely open or have a basic frame with a roof above it.

    Find The Right Bin Carrier

Some of the most popular bin carrier brands include Automated Ag, COE, Orchard Carriers, and Schmeiser. Each manufacturer brings its own unique design philosophy to the table, like Orchard Carriers, which differentiates between orchard crop and row crop bin carriers for a more specialized approach. Automated Ag offers the Bin Bandit series of carriers, which consists of a high-density machine that puts a premium on capacity, a low profile model that sits as low to the ground as possible, and a special citrus model with a thinner profile for navigating tight rows. COE sells a W8 R-Series bin carrier with several unique features, including single joystick control, the TRAX continuous track drive system, and auto-center rear steering.
