John Deere Adds New Models & Features To 5G Series Specialty Tractors
John Deere has updated its 5G series of specialty tractors designed for farming high-value crops, adding a new transmission option for models equipped with a cab, which itself gets a new design. Deere also added precision ag updates and new 105- and 120-horsepower (77.2- and 88.3-kilowatt) models to various 5G configurations. The GF, GN, and GV variants gain a 120-HP 5115 model, and the GV and GL variants gain a 105-HP 5105 model. With these additions, the 5G series includes tractors with power ratings from 75 to 120 HP. Deere says the new updates also make the tractors easier to operate, more comfortable, and more efficient.
Meet The 5G Series
Deere’s ultra-narrow, cab-equipped 5GV tractors range from 3.3 to 5.2 feet (1 to 1.6 meters) wide and are built to work in tightly planted vineyard rows measuring just 6.6 ft (2 m) wide. The manufacturer’s 5GN variants are built to work wider, 6.6- to 8.2-ft (2.5-m) vineyard rows, and are available with narrow or very narrow cabs. Designed for low-hanging orchards and pergola vineyards, 5GL tractors are available with a cab or open station platform, and come in widths from 3.3 to 7.2 ft (2.2 m). Deere’s 5GF models are for use in wide vineyards or orchards, and are available with a cab or open station platform. The 5GF lineup is available in widths from 4.25 to 6.2 ft (1.3 to 1.9 m), and in a wide orchard variant with outside widths from 4.9 ft (1.5 m) to 7.2 ft.
The new 5105 and 5515 tractors are equipped with 3.6-liter, four-cylinder FTP F36 engines that meet European Union Stage V emissions regulations by virtue of an aftertreatment module beneath the hood that combines a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), a diesel particulate filter (DPF), and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). The 5105GL boasts a larger operator’s seat that Deere says makes orchard work more comfortable. Across the entire series, a new five-speed Hi-Lo PowrReverser Eco-transmission option offers speeds up to 25 mph (40 km/h) at reduced engine speeds for greater fuel efficiency.
Step Into The Redesigned Cab
John Deere says the series’ redesigned cab gives operators more legroom and better ergonomics. Overall roominess has been increased by 10%, thanks to redesigned consoles and a reduced-height transmission tunnel. The redesign also includes a new 5-inch display set into the front console that gives operators access to and control of various tractor and attachment settings. Deere also “significantly” lowered the hood, improving operator visibility. Optional LED lighting is also available to improve visibility when working at night, and an optional Category IV filtration system can be installed in the roof to protect against dust, aerosols, and vapors.
Last but certainly not least, new tech options include ISOBUS control and the JD-Link telematics system, which allows for sending tractor data to the John Deere Operators Center to gain greater operational insights and for planning and managing purposes. Customers can also equip their 5G tractors with Deere’s Dynamic Steering technology to add automated steering assistance. To make maneuvering on slopes easier, they can add Deere’s AutoClutch function.
