John Deere Specialty Tractors Get New 5115RH Model & Upgrades To 2020 Model Year 5GN & 5GV Series

John Deere recently unveiled a new 5115RH high-crop tractor, an addition to its specialty crop equipment line that will be available for order by the end of this month. The company also announced that its 2020 model year 5GN and 5GV narrow specialty tractors are receiving ergonomic updates and other refreshes, including a new 5GV cab option for 5GN models, which also gain a new front hitch option billed as ideal for limb and leaf cutters, grass trimmers, sweepers, and other front-located implements.

    Meet The 5115RH

The new premium high-crop 5115RH is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged engine outputting 115 horsepower of rated power at 2,100 rpm and 100 horsepower of rated PTO power at 2,100 rpm. Operators can use the tractor’s Command 8 transmission (16 forward and 16 reverse speeds) with creeper functionality to set optimal ground speeds from 0.28 mph (0.45 km/h) to 30 mph (48.3 km/h) for low-speed planting, harvesting, and bed-prepping tasks.

The 5115RH also addresses frustrations farmers have voiced concerning a lack of technology and data-collection abilities in the premium high-crop class, says John Doyle, Deere product marketing manager, who adds that farmers are also struggling to find skilled labor to operate such tractors. “The 5115RH addresses these concerns with integrated technology and improved operator comfort, while delivering best-in-class fuel efficiency and hydraulic capacity," he says.

Deere outfits the 5115RH with 230/95 R40 tires providing 26.9 inches (68.3 centimeters) of crop clearance to the drawbar and 28.6 inches (72.6 centimeters) of clearance to the axle’s center point. Factory-installed integrated guidance, field mapping, spray documentation, data collection, ISOBUS communication, and Section Control are available options that assist in minimizing crop damage in beds, reducing operator fatigue, and enabling more informed, data-based decisions. Further, operators can wirelessly share data with others via the John Deere Operations Center and remotely monitor the 5115RH via a factory-installed JDLink option.

John Deere recently announced that it will make the ultra-narrow 5GV cab available as an option with the company’s 2020 model year 5GN specialty tractor models. (Photo courtesy of Deere & Company.)
    5GN & 5GV Upgrades

In addition to offering the “ultra-narrow” GV cab with the 5GN, Deere will continue offering the GV cab with 2020 model year 5GV models, and customers can still order 5GN models with the larger 5GN cab. “The wider stance of a 5GN tractor, accompanied with the newly available 5GV narrower cab, provides excellent stability in hilly conditions while offering an ultra-narrow cab for situations where high-value crop and limb preservation are key to higher yields," says Justin Cherry, Deere product marketing manager.
