Read More (About GRIMME)German manufacturer GRIMME and its subsidiaries produce more than 150 different machines for the potato, beet, and vegetable industries. Headquartered in Damme, Germany, the group’s equipment range comprises self-propelled and pull-type harvesters, cup and belt planters, seeders, bed formers, separators, cultivators, haulm toppers, and windrowers. Its products help farmers grow and produce crops such as turnips, onions, carrots, leeks, chives, celery, fennel, peas, cabbage, and lettuce.
In 1969, more than a century after its founding in 1861, GRIMME developed its first self-propelled harvesting machine. The ill-fated initial prototype—a mash-up of a Europa-Standard potato harvester and a Deutz tractor—literally fell off a crane and into a harbor, where it remains to this day.
The company persevered, however, and the all-new DS 100 bunker harvester and DS 80 elevator harvester made their debut. Later, in 1997, GRIMME introduced its patented SE technology of an inclined elevator with haulm separation. In 2001, GRIMME unveiled an inline harvester, the TECTRON 415, which surprised the industry by placing the digging unit in front of the wheels.
In 2003, GRIMME acquired potato equipment maker Spudnik of Blackfoot, Idaho, in the US. This added to the company’s portfolio various potato planters, cultivators, harvesters, and transport and storage equipment suited to American farming conditions and preferences.
That same year came GRIMME’s first beet harvester, the innovative MAXTRON 620. In 2007, the company launched its versatile VARITRON harvester, which adapts to many usage scenarios with its multiple onboard separators and build options.
In 2011 GRIMME opened new facilities to assemble self-propelled harvesters in the Niedersachsenpark industrial area between Bremen and Osnabrück. Two years later the group entered the vegetable market by acquiring specialist firm ASA-LIFT of Sorö, Denmark.
As of 2020, GRIMME has other subsidiaries to aid in its manufacturing capabilities. There’s INTERNORM, a plastics engineering firm in Damme, as well as RICON, a factory for making webs and conveying equipment, in Rieste. The GRIMME group has more than 2,400 employees and operations in more than 120 countries around the globe.
Potato harvesters – GRIMME’s self-propelled VENTOR 4150 is a four-row potato harvester with a 16.5-ton (15-metric ton) bunker. Introduced in 2017, the 4150 received awards such as Machine of the Year in 2018 and the DLG Silver Medal. It protects the soil via track-offset driving while protecting the crop using GRIMME’s SE separation system.
A newer self-propelled harvester from the company is the 4-row Varitron 470 Platinum Terra Trac. On the pull-type side is the EVO 290 bunker-style potato harvester.
Beet harvesters – The Rootster 604 from GRIMME is a pull-type, 6-row, overloading beet harvester with a 4.4–ton (4-metric ton) bunker. Meanwhile, the new Rexor 6300 Platinum is a self-propelled model with a big 33–ton (30-metric ton) bunker, 653 horsepower (487 kilowatts), and stage V emissions compliance.
Vegetable harvesters – For carrot harvesting, GRIMME’s PO-335 BU is a 1-row, top-lifting model that mounts on the side of your tractor. The SL-122-SERIES, meanwhile, is a pull-type elevator for harvesting onions. GRIMME sells other machinery optimized for parsnip, cabbage, celery, and other vegetables.
