GRIMME Shows Off Its EVO 280 Potato Harvester
German manufacturer GRIMME showed off its new EVO 280 potato harvester to an international audience in early December. The venue was the biannual GRIMME Technica, an in-house exhibition at the company headquarters in Damme.
The two-row, pull-type EVO 280 has three separators, an 8.8-ton (8-metric-ton) bunker, and a 9.8-foot (3-meter) road transport width thanks to an integrated gantry axle.
Bigger & Better
Visually, the EVO 280 resembles the EVO 290 harvester, which debuted last year. Technologically, though, it traces its roots back to the company’s high-output SE 150-60.
The EVO 280 has a 33% bigger potato bunker than the SE 150-60, shorter drops to protect the crop, greater sieving area, and wider and more effective separators to remove rocks and break up dirt clods. There is also room for six human pickers on board instead of four.
For control of the EVO 280, there’s support for the new, 12.1-inch (30.7-centimeter) CCI 1200 terminal, as well as the CCI 50. MemoryControl allows the operator to store settings and call them up later. This allows quick changes between fields or drivers. The EVO 280 supports ISOBUS and myGRIMME telematics, the latter of which is accessible via a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Features & Options
Standard features include automatic levelling, axle self-centering, automatic bunker filling, and a telescoping 11.5-foot (3.5-meter) axle.
Options for the EVO 280 include TerraControl automatic digging depth control, the TerraDisc disc coulter intake for heavy conditions, VarioDrive for the main webs, Speedtronic automatic speed control for the picking table and separators, a bunk head lowering mechanism for unloading, and 850/50 R30.5 radial tires to reduce compaction of the soil.
