    About Front-Mounted Shakers

A front shaker attaches to the front of a tractor or a self-propelled vehicle that uses a front-mounted clamp. The shaker then grabs a tree trunk or limb to shake fruit or nuts onto the ground. Some use a boom to elevate the shaker attachment to higher limbs. This type of harvest machine is useful on farms and orchards for tree nuts such as walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts/filberts, pistachios, and almonds, as well as for apples, cherries, plums, and olives.

    Shaker Varieties & Complementary Equipment

Many farmers use a ground harvester to pick up the fallen crop, while others use a special type of shaker called a catching frame set to catch the fruit as it falls. These have a catching frame receiver, which is a large, sloped set of panels or deflectors. As a catching frame set shaker approaches the tree trunk to clamp it, its panels fit under one-half of the tree. A separate receiver, without a shaker mechanism, drives under the other side of the tree. Together, they form a square trough with the tree in its center. When the shaker shakes the tree trunk, the receiver panels catch most of the falling nuts and guide them onto the standalone receiver’s conveyor belt. The fruit then goes through cleaning mechanism.
