Read More (About Jackrabbit)Located in Ripon, California, in “the heart of the Central Valley,” Jackrabbit has been manufacturing and selling nut-harvesting equipment since Earl Anderson founded the company in 1981. According to Jackrabbit, Anderson recognized that growers in the region needed a harvesting system that was more efficient and capable than what was then available. After talking with numerous growers and seeking their input, Anderson designed the company’s first Jackrabbit bankout system. With dealers now established in California, Texas, Georgia, Oregon, Mexico, and Chile, the company manufactures Jackrabbit harvesters, JackRunner self-propelled shuttles, JackCart and Wedge 10 carts, CO-Jack rodent control systems, YardJack and field elevators, StickJack and PrepperJack conditioners, and Prune-Rite pruning towers. In addition to almonds, the company’s products are designed for use in walnut and pecan operations.
In addition to its manufacturing business, Jackrabbit also sells parts for its elevators, reservoir carts, towers, and other products. Additionally, the company offers fabrication services including laser cutting, precision forming, rolling, fastener insertion, shearing, welding, layout and drafting, and general fabrication. In 2017, the company acquired Shur Farms, which manufactures Cold Air Drain frost-protection equipment for use with citrus, grape, avocado, stone fruit, and other crops. Shur Farms lays claim to designing and installing the first cold-air drainage system in North America in the late 1990s, and began manufacturing the system to sell in 2001. Elsewhere, in 2013, Jackrabbit received $17.7 million in capital investment from Gladstone Investment in a deal that also saw the Pegasus Capital Group providing capital and other resources.
As with other California-based manufacturers of specialty crop equipment, Jackrabbit increasingly focused over the years on developing products and technologies that help reduce dust generation during harvesting. The company’s latest Jackrabbit Harvester model, for example, was specially designed with what Jackrabbit describes as a “radically new disc-based cleaning section” that provides agitated conveyance of the crop before it reaches the Harvester’s twin-rod offloading chain and cleaning fan. Using Jackrabbit’s Constant Race Technology, the cleaning section causes more dirt to exit before reaching the exhaust fan. Elsewhere, Jackrabbit claims its JackRunner self-propelled shuttle, now the JackRunner 180, is the first nut-harvesting system able to travel forward and backward at 30 mph.
If you’re in the market for pre-owned specialty crop machines, including harvesters, you’ll find scores of machines for sale at SpecialtyCropEQ.com, including Jackrabbit.
