Toro is now selling a battery-powered version of its medium-duty Workman MDX utility vehicle, a staple on golf courses, farms and ranches, landscaping sites, and other jobsites for hauling, towing, and dumping tools, materials, debris, and more. Toro says customers can count on the same 1,650-pound (750-kilogram) total payload capacity, comfortable ride, and compatibility with a host of optional attachments from the MDX Lithium as with the model’s gas- and diesel-powered variants.

“The Workman MDX is an essential piece of equipment for many superintendents, and we’re excited to offer crews this reliable, battery-powered option,” says Toro Product Manager Marissa Garin. “Introducing battery power to your fleet is now easier than ever with the new Workman MDX Lithium, as you get the same strength and durability you’ve always relied on with all the benefits of lithium-ion battery technology.”

    The Benefits Of Battery Power

The Workman MDX Lithium is powered by Toro’s patent-pending HyperCell lithium-ion batteries, which use a distributed Battery Management System (BMS) to optimize performance and enhance reliability and longevity. Toro says its batteries must pass rigorous, extensive environment and third-party certification testing; when the time comes to replace them, the manufacturer offers third-party recycling.

Toro says the MDX Lithium’s battery packs are essentially maintenance-free, which frees operators to focus on the many items on their to-do lists. And thanks to a built-in charger, they are also easy to recharge, just plug the Workman into a standard 120-volt outlet.

    The Workman MDX

A standout feature of all Workman MDX utility vehicles is Toro’s Super Ride Quality (SRQ) system, designed to deliver a more comfortable riding experience. The system comprises an independent A-frame front suspension, a swing-arm rear suspension, and an Active In-Frame Twister Joint. The twister joint allows each axle to independently react to terrain, including undulating surfaces. This helps keep all four wheels in continual contact with the ground, resulting in improved traction and stability, and minimizing potential damage to turf, Toro says.

The UTV has a non-rusting or denting double-wall composite plastic cargo bed with a 1,250-lb (567-kg) payload capacity. It can tow 1,200 lbs (544 kg) with an optional heavy-duty tow hitch and works with such attachments and accessories as an electric bed lift, a rear lift kit, and a snowplow.
