John Deere will sponsor a virtual concert event titled “The Farm Must Go On” on Wednesday, December 9, benefiting Farm Rescue, a nonprofit organization that serves farmers and ranchers who’ve experienced an unexpected major illness, injury, or natural disaster. Streaming live starting at 8 p.m. EST from the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, the concert will be available to watch free on YouTube. Performers will include country music artists Dustin Lynch, Maddie & Tae, Mickey Guyton, Travis Denning, and Tyler Farr.
The Vital 1%
Founded in 2005, Farm Rescue has assisted hundreds of farmers by helping them plant or harvest their crops. As Deere says, just 1% of the 330 million U.S. population, or 3.4 million, are farmers. “On average, each farm feeds 166 people, so even one missed planting season or one missed harvest due to an unexpected event has a ripple effect,” Deere says.
Farm Rescue founder and President Bill Gross says COVID-19 has impacted people throughout the world, including farmers. “COVID highlights the vulnerability of family farms—when something unpredicted happens, not only is the family carrying that health burden, but also the pressure to produce, and the stresses of maintaining a viable operation,” he says.
